In addition to a general introduction to the theories and methods of global history, you will learn how to analyse complex transnational phenomena, and how to re-evaluate them historically. You will be able to specialise in one of three world regions and expand your language skills accordingly: You can choose between Africa, Europe or the Atlantic World and the Americas; but you may also choose transnational/-regional history. Our Programme consists of four main pillars: Foundations, Area Expertise and Language Courses, and Specialisation. The fourth pillar consists of a Masterclass and your Master’s thesis – with a topic of your own choice.
Fields of Employment
The successful completion of your Master's degree opens up a wide range of occupational fields. You will be able to pursue a career in academia, to support international NGOs, or to join research institutions and associations. In addition, your cultural knowledge and skills will be in demand in policy consulting and internationally operating companies. Global historical questions are also becoming increasingly important in museum and exhibition work, as well as in journalism. The Master’s Programme Global History at the University of Bayreuth will, of course, also enable you to do a doctorate as it is above all committed to the education of qualified future historians.Doing a doctorate at the University of Bayreuth
The supervises doctoral students of all subjects who are pursuing a doctorate in a structured programme or at one of the University's seven faculties. We facilitate scientific exchange already in the earliest phase of independent research, and complement the interdisciplinary education of doctoral students with additional teaching and training opportunities. Our aim is to create the perfect research and learning conditions for them.

At the University of Bayreuth, you can expect a thorough education in global history that is unique in Southern Germany. You will expand your basic knowledge, acquire additional methodological and content-related qualifications, and be able to specialise in a world region. In this way, you can further expand your individual competencies in a specialised field.
In addition, you will learn new approaches to cultural,
economic, social, and political history, and benefit from
a variety of subject areas that goes far beyond the classical, chronologically ordered subjects, such as History of
Africa, Economic and Social History and Regional Franconian History.

The University of Bayreuth does not charge tuition fees. However, every student must pay the . This includes the fees for the Studentenwerk Oberfranken and the for the use of public transport in the cities of Bayreuth and Kulmbach and in many parts of the regional transport system.

Admission requirements
- Qualification
A bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Bayreuth with at least an ex-amination grade of “good” (2.5) or an equivalent degree
- Equivalency
Equivalency of the completed bachelor's degree is the responsibility of the board of examiners and is not determined conclusively until the application process is under way; for further questions regarding your application, please 鶹Ʒ globalhistory@uni-bayreuth.de
- Aptitude Assessment Process
If the grade requirements are not met, an aptitude assessment process is carried out (see , Annex 2); it includes an evaluation of the applicant's qualifications and, if necessary, a personal interview

Applications may already be submitted before completion of the bachelor's degree; however, a total of at least 150 credits and a minimum grade of "good" (2.5) are required by the time of application

Module handbook
The module handbook provides an overview of the various modules that must be taken in a degree programme. It contains all the important explanations on the requirements and types of module examinations as well as on the intermediate or final examinations and serves as a kind of study guide for orientation.
Examination regulations
Examination regulations define the content and structure of a particular degree programme in a legally binding manner. They must be approved by the Ministry of Science or accredited by an accreditation agency.
