First English designed and taught Bachelor’s Programme at the University of Bayreuth

The new English taught bachelor's programme "Data, Science and AI" will launch in the upcoming winter semester. It is aimed primarily at students from around the world who not only have practical programming skills but also seek to develop a deeper understanding of the mathematical and conceptual foundations of data-driven methods.

The University of Bayreuth is taking another significant step in its internationalization strategy with the introduction of this fully English-taught, interdisciplinary bachelor's programme in "Data, Science and AI" (DSAI). The programme combines computer science, mathematics, and data science with expertise from a broad range of disciplines—preparing students to tackle global challenges in science, technology, business, and society.

Students will learn general methods in mathematics, computer science, and data science, and also discover how to apply these methods in specific fields—such as biology, economics, or environmental sciences. The goal is for students to not only master theoretical knowledge but also work hands-on with data and AI in various domains.

With this new programme, the University of Bayreuth is clearly signaling its commitment to being internationally visible and attracting talented students from all over the world to Upper Franconia. University of Bayreuth is internationally oriented from the very beginning: starting with African Studies nearly 50 years ago, the university has since developed a global network of over 350 partner universities and hubs in Shanghai, Melbourne, Boston, and Bordeaux. Today, students from 100 different countries study at UBT, with 18 percent of the student body coming from abroad.

“Data, Scienceand& AI” degree programme is geared towards young people who bring not only technical know-how but also want to understand the theoretical foundations of data-driven technologies—from machine learning to complex data analysis. The programme is taught entirely in English. Admission requires proof of English language proficiency at B2 level or an equivalent qualification.
