The Annual Cluster Conference brings together international scholars from the humanities and social ciences, media and literary studies, and political science. It will primarily feature participants from the four African Cluster Centers at the University of Lagos (Nigeria), Rhodes University, Makhanda in Grahamstown (South Africa), Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), and Moi University in Eldoret (Kenya). The academic program will be complemented by artistic contributions, panel discussions with practitioners, and interactive workshops. The conference aims to create a space for creative encounters between research, art, and society.
The conference aims to explore the diverse forms of "mobility" and "temporality" among African youth. Temporality describes how time is perceived, how it exists in our consciousness, and how it structures events, actions, and experiences. Understanding the dynamics of youth movements and actions requires an analysis of lived experiences within changing spaces and timeframes. Therefore, the conference examines how social movements contribute to forming a new understanding of Africa. These movements offer a perspective to view Africa as a constantly evolving continent. This approach aims to decolonize and rethink Africa's historical path in a more inclusive and dynamic way.
